Nevada Science Education Legacy

Gathering Genius, Inc. Legacy Program

Gathering Genius, Inc. (G² Inc.), a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, was founded in 2006 to increase student interest, excellence, competitiveness, and participation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields in the State of Nevada. In addition to supporting and promoting the 2009 Intel International Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) for the State of Nevada, we are raising endowment funds and developing a Legacy Program of educational outreach to students and teachers that will:

The teacher training workshops will be offered starting the summer of 2009 in a number of counties statewide. Teachers will receive stipends, travel expenses, and continuing education credits to attend workshops that will train them to better mentor students who are competing in science fairs. Teachers will learn about the many resources students can access to conduct and present competitive research. The teachers will then be provided with ongoing support as they help students prepare for science fair competition.

Informal education outreach will continue after the Intel ISEF. The scope of this project is yet to be determined, but it could include raising funds for existing STEM student outreach, and designing and conducting additional after school/summer programs that show students how fun and exciting the fields of science and technology can be.

2009: The Year of Math and Science Education in Nevada

Bringing Intel ISEF to Nevada presents a wonderful opportunity to shine the spotlight statewide on the role and importance of science and math education. The Governor and others have issued proclamations recognizing this role and designating 2009 as The Year of Math and Science Education in Nevada.
